Creative Lead
The Challenge
The BEE Chamber already had a trusted Weekly Newsletter and Monthly Webinar, yet their flagship magazine remained rooted in compliance-heavy reporting. Issue 8 needed to evolve beyond a static publication into a dynamic strategic tool that reflected the chamber's thought leadership and the urgent shift from compliance to genuine capability in South Africa's transformation landscape.
My Role & Approach
As Creative Lead, I repositioned the magazine from a compliance update into a strategic leadership platform. The goal was to move the conversation away from annual checklists and toward future-ready transformation as a disciplined business function.
Key actions
Reframed editorial strategy – Shifted the narrative from "what companies must do" to "what transformation must become," addressing pressing forces like AI acceleration, tighter governance, and evolving legislative frameworks.
Curated insight-driven content – Developed twelve feature articles exploring technology, governance, inclusion, skills integration, stewardship, and professionalisation, including targeted pieces like "AI and B-BBEE: Navigating the New Digital Divide" and "Stewardship Not Ownership: The Governance Reckoning Reshaping Transformation."
Positioned for leadership not compliance – Designed the magazine to speak directly to decision-makers, focusing on leadership, data, and decisions that create measurable impact rather than performative reporting.
Strengthened channel integration – Positioned Issue 8 as an extension of the BEE Chamber's existing ecosystem (newsletter + webinars), creating a cohesive multimedia voice across all platforms.
The Outcome
Issue 8 became more than a magazine. It transformed into a strategic asset that reinforced the BEE Chamber's authority as a forward-thinking voice in South African transformation. The publication resonated with leaders who build change, turning a previously functional compliance document into a meaningful, insight-driven platform for shaping the country's next economy.
