The Problem:
The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) needed to shed its dated visual identity, which had become synonymous with bureaucracy and detachment. Its outdated logo, rigid brand guidelines, and overly formal tone made it difficult to connect with modern citizens and digital-first businesses. SARB required a brand overhaul to restore relevance, credibility, and authority in a fast-evolving financial landscape.
The Solution:
A research-driven corporate identity redesign that:
Balanced heritage with innovation by creating a new symbol reflecting both stability and progress
Introduced a refreshed colour palette inspired by South African vibrancy to convey warmth and approachability
Developed mobile-first templates and digital assets to ensure consistent, flexible application across platforms
Crafted human-centred messaging guidelines that speak to citizens, businesses, and stakeholders with clarity and trust
The Transformation:
The redesign repositioned SARB as a trustworthy yet forward-thinking institution. The new visual identity and messaging bridged the gap between tradition and modernity, improving public perception, increasing engagement with digital audiences, and reinforcing SARB’s role as a credible authority in Africa’s financial future.
